Using libraries vs “pure” coding

I wrote a list of potential coding projects that you could do in an afternoon, and someone left me this comment:

The only way I could do one of those in an afternoon would be if I could find a library or framework to do the heavy lifting. That is not coding, it is using.

That’s a curious response to me. This person thinks that using a library is not Real Coding™.

But of course we use libraries & open source tools all the time as developers.
